feat(cssholmes): add theme designer and analyzer services - #6
Part 1 of the cssHolmes 3.3.0 Alpha 1 release, split from #5 to keep automated reviews below 100 files. This PR changes 79 files.
Storage, access checks, module lifecycle, analyzers and command-line scanning.
Review and merge order
Runtime → presentation → documentation → quality. Base: master. These are dependent review slices; the complete fourth branch is the release candidate. Do not deploy an intermediate slice.
The combined tree exactly matches release candidate 9b75e84ea2839b96dba219f80d531513ce34a9fa; splitting introduces no source changes.
Validation
The complete candidate passed local PHP 8.4/8.5 checks and browser regressions. A clean package was installed and upgraded from 3.0.0 on a disposable XOOPS 2.7.4-RC2 site, including normal login, editor save/reload, anonymous published CSS, CSRF checks and restore. Hosted CI passed on the complete candidate. The final upstream branch will also run CI before release.
No module-local vendor dependencies are added. PHP 8.4+ is required. Admin-theme publishing and native XOOPS 4 installation remain outside this alpha.

Merge Risk: Moderate · previous review 9d97e
Several issues should be fixed before merge: workbench history may be downloadable, patch apply can write unvalidated imported content into theme files and lose rollback data, the designer can fail on hosts with symlinked paths, and the clone helper misbehaves. Most remaining items are minor.

Review comments at @class/Analyzer/DesignTokenAnalyzer.php:
- Around line 233-256: Update extractCssVarRefs so repeated references do not
overwrite the first file and line for each variable, while tracking a missing
fallback if any occurrence lacks one. Preserve the first-use location for
checkUndefinedRefs and ensure checkMissingFallbacks can detect a missing
fallback even when a later occurrence has one.
Review comments at @class/Analyzer/TemplateIncludeResolver.php:
- Around line 123-127: In the theme-name-prefixed branch of `resolve`, check the
normalized path before calling `themeResult`; when `normalise` returns the
`'../'` sentinel, return `STATUS_EXTERNAL` with the original include path and
`exists` set to false. Keep the existing `themeResult` handling for paths that
remain inside the theme.
Review comments at @class/Cli/ScanCommand.php:
- Around line 85-86: Update JSON encoding in the scan command’s payload output
to substitute invalid UTF-8 and throw on any other encoding failure. Keep the
existing formatting and stdout behavior.
Review comments at @class/Common/FilesManagement.php:
- Around line 64-65: Update the exception handling in recurseCopy so a failed
destination mkdir does not continue into the copy loop; let the RuntimeException
propagate or return a failure result before copying begins.
Review comments at @class/Common/SysUtility.php:
- Around line 250-252: Update tableExists() to return whether the result from
queryFAndCheck contains a row, rather than returning the initialized false
value.
- Line 223: Update the INSERT construction using $tempTable so each value is
escaped with the database connection’s quoting method before joining the VALUES
clause; keep the existing column list and value order unchanged.
- Around line 225-226: Update the query failure check in cloneRecord to test
whether $result is false instead of calling isResultSet(), so successful INSERT
operations are not treated as errors and the new ID can be returned.
Review comments at @class/Designer/SetLibrary.php:
- Around line 303-319: Update directory() so its recursive validation and
creation are confined to XOOPS_VAR_PATH/configs/cssholmes/designer, rather than
walking or creating arbitrary ancestors. Check the trusted parent with
realpath() only, and preserve symlink checks for directories within the library
storage path.
Review comments at @class/Designer/ThemeConfigStore.php:
- Around line 360-373: Update checkDirectory so it rejects symlinks only within
the module-owned storage folders at or below configRoot, resolving and
validating the trusted parent boundary once; do not recursively reject symlinks
in ancestors outside that boundary. Keep themesRoot validation in validateTheme
based on its existing realpath checks.
Review comments at @class/Workbench/ImportStore.php:
- Around line 204-212: Update writeStore to detect JSON encoding and file-write
failures and throw instead of silently reporting success. Serialize each
mutator’s full read-modify-write cycle with one lock, and write the encoded
history to a temporary file before renaming it to the store path so failures or
interruptions do not leave truncated history.
- Around line 165-176: Update ImportStore::storePath() to place imports.json
under XOOPS_VAR_PATH rather than the module’s web-root data directory, and
change ImportStore::ensureDirectory() to create the directory with mode 0700.
Review comments at @class/Workbench/PatchApplier.php:
- Around line 337-339: Update the replacement logic in the patch application and
rollback paths to use preg_replace_callback, returning the stylesheet block or
previousBlock as literal content so backslashes and dollar-sign sequences are
preserved. Apply this to both replacement sites identified in the diff.
- Line 820: Update the target-extension checks in resolveTextTarget() and the
related file-selection filter to accept only .tpl and .html files, excluding
.php targets from text apply.
- Around line 197-201: Update the text rollback metadata currently storing
original_content to store only the replaced before/after text; during rollback,
reverse the replacement only when the after text occurs exactly once in the
target, and refuse otherwise. Preserve unrelated edits and later changes instead
of restoring the entire file.
- Around line 864-866: Validate imported style values in applyStyleChange() and
previewStyleChange() before they are written or previewed: reject selectors,
style properties, and values containing braces, semicolons, comment terminators,
or line breaks, and require style_property to match the specified CSS-property
naming rule. Keep preview and apply validation consistent.
Review comments at @class/Workbench/PatchSuggester.php:
- Around line 247-258: In fallbackFiles(), relativePath() returns paths without
a leading slash, so directory bonuses miss top-level directories. Prefix the
relative path with a slash and use that value for the scoring checks, including
the theme filename checks, so top-level and nested paths receive the intended
bonuses.
Review comments at @class/Workbench/ScanStore.php:
- Around line 168-179: Update ScanStore::storePath() to place scans.json under
XOOPS_VAR_PATH instead of the public module tree, and change
ScanStore::ensureDirectory() to create the directory with 0700 permissions.
Review comments at @data/workbench/imports.json:
- Around line 1-22: Replace the stored import records in the imports.json data
with an empty array, or remove the file entirely; ImportStore::readStore()
already handles a missing file, so do not preserve the test imports in shipped
runtime state.

Keep scan history outside the public module tree and restrict directory permissions.
ScanStore writes scans.json below the module directory. Each record includes theme_path and analyzer findings. data/workbench/index.php only prevents directory indexing, and the repository ships no .htaccess or web.config. If the server serves module files, an unauthenticated request can fetch scans.json. Add a deny rule for this directory or move the store under XOOPS_VAR_PATH.
mkdir() also requests permissive permissions. Use 0700:
