+Today, we announce the https://github.com/smallrye/smallrye-fault-tolerance/releases/tag/7.0.0[release] of {smallrye-ft} 7.0.0.
+This is a major release that bumps the minimum Java version, removes several deprecated features, fixes multiple bugs and updates significant dependencies.
+
+The new minimum Java version is 17. This is long overdue, there's probably no user out there still on Java 8 or 11.
+
+The following deprecated features were removed:
+
+* support for `@Blocking` and `@NonBlocking`
+** use `@Asynchronous` and `@AsynchronousNonBlocking` instead
+* the old programmatic API: `FaultTolerance`, `@ApplyFaultTolerance`
+** use the new programmatic API: `Guard`, `TypedGuard`, `@ApplyGuard`
+* support for MicroProfile Metrics
+** use Micrometer or OpenTelemetry Metrics
+* the integration of OpenTracing with MicroProfile Context Propegation
+** use OpenTelemetry Tracing
+* support for Security Manager
+
+The dependencies on the following libraries were updated:

+* Jakarta EE: we now use Jakarta EE 11
+* Vert.x: we now use Vert.x 5
+* Micrometer: we were stuck on Micrometer 1.12 due to a breaking change in the Prometheus client, but we're on the latest release now
+* many others (Mutiny 3, JUnit Jupiter 6, etc.)

+* fault tolerance annotations (`@Fallback` etc.) present on a stereotype that is present on the guarded class are now correctly applied
