Add Holmes-only install support (runner.enabled=false) - #2187
Conversation
Captured before adding runner.enabled, so they pin today's output for existing installs. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01UC2FoqU7gBoeW8TrKzTGqe Signed-off-by: Claude <noreply@anthropic.com>
runner.enabled=false skips the runner, kubewatch, their RBAC and the OpenShift SCCs they use, and keeps robusta-playbooks-config-secret with only what Holmes reads from it: cluster name, account id, signing key and the robusta sink. Rendering fails without Holmes, without a robusta sink, or while the bundled Alertmanager still sends to the runner service. A missing key counts as true, so helm upgrade --reuse-values from an older chart keeps the runner. Golden tests pin the default output. release.yaml now stamps CHART_VERSION and RUNNER_VERSION separately (both the tag, so runner releases are unchanged). holmes-bump.yaml takes the last runner release, bumps only the holmes dependency, publishes it as the next patch chart version on the existing runner image, and opens a PR bumping holmes on master. holmes-bump.yaml publishes chart patch versions without a release tag, and upload_chart.sh would replace one silently. release.yaml now fails before anything is built when robusta/robusta $CHART_VERSION is already in the chart repo. Both workflows read the published versions from one script. Inside the if, a failed lookup read as "not published" and the release went on. The lookup now runs on its own, so its failure stops the step. The goldens embedded the Holmes image tag, so every Holmes bump failed them. The test now writes the holmes dependency version as 0.0.0, like the runner version, and holmes-bump.yaml no longer regenerates them. This PR adds support for installing HolmesGPT without the Robusta runner, kubewatch, or their associated RBAC resources. This enables clusters to use Holmes for alert triage and Ask Holmes functionality while connecting directly to the Robusta platform.
