#+TITLE: Setting up WikiApiary This directory contains an ansible set up for the wikiapiary.com wiki. * Set up We use ansible to deploy the system. These secrets that need to be deployed on the server are expected to be set in environment variables on the control node. See the file [[file:var/environment.yaml][environment.yaml]] for a list of the variables that need to be set and an explanation of them. You will need the following software installed: - [[Ansible][Ansible]] - [[https://www.gnu.org/software/make/][GNU make]] - [[https://mikefarah.gitbook.io/yq/][yq]] While not required, you may find that [[https://direnv.net/docs/installation.html][installing]] [[https://direnv.net/][direnv]] and [[https://direnv.net/docs/hook.html][configuring the hook for it]] so that the .envrc file in a directory is read is helpful. If you do that, you can store your secrets in your [[file:.gitignore][.gitignore]]'d .env file and the included [[file:.envrc][.envrc]] file will use your use it to populate your environment with the secrets that that are expected here. * Testing and development Update [[file:dev-hosts.yaml][dev-hosts.yaml]] to point to the hosts you want to use during testing. Alternatively, you can create your own inventory file in the [[file:inventory/][inventory]] subdirectory and point to it with the =INVENTORY= environment variable. For example, if you create an inventory file in the inventory subdirectory named =sam-test-file.yaml=, then you would set your =INVENTORY= environment variable to =sam-test-file.yaml=. All you should need to do is run =make=. Your environment will be checked and the the ansible playbook in [[file:main.yaml][main.yaml]] will be run against your dev environment. * Production Once you have confirmed the playbook is working against your testing environment, you can reinvoke make with the production inventory file like this: #+begin_src shell make INVENTORY=hosts.yaml #+end_src * Reporting problems Bugs should be filed as issues on the [[https://github.com/WikiApiary/deploy/issues][WikiApiary/deploy github project]].
