The Sphinx site only documents a few proxy classes. Add a "User guide" section and a first page that describes what the framework itself reads from a job configuration:

  • the phlex command-line options and how they override the file
  • the top-level keys (stage, max_concurrency, driver, sources, modules, resources), and that unknown keys are silently ignored
  • plugin entries: cpp/py, the injected module_label, PHLEX_PLUGIN_PATH lookup, RTLD_LOCAL loading, and the plugin load order
  • the driver entry, uses_sources and the generate_layers parameters
  • SPDLOG_LEVEL and the default-logger restore
  • passing Jsonnet top-level arguments via the jsonnet tool

The new toctree globs guide/*, so later guide pages only need to add a file.

Documentation

  • Added a User guide toctree with glob matching, so guide pages are included automatically.
  • Added a job-configuration guide covering command-line options, configuration keys, plugin setup and loading, drivers, logging, Jsonnet imports and parameters, and large-integer limits.
  • Documented that unknown top-level keys are silently ignored and that Phlex does not accept Jsonnet top-level arguments or external variables.

Walkthrough

The change adds a Phlex job configuration guide and a User guide table of contents that links to the new guide and other guide pages.

Changes: Configuration documentation

Layer / File(s) Summary
Configuration guide and navigation
docs/source/guide/configuration.rst, docs/source/index.rst
The new guide describes CLI options, configuration keys, plugins, drivers, layer generation, logging, and Jsonnet integer precision. The index adds a User guide toctree with glob matching.

  • Framework-R-D/phlex#1025: The User guide glob includes the resources page, and this guide also describes the resources key and plugin registration.
  • Framework-R-D/phlex#1024: The User guide glob includes the product selectors page, and this guide uses product_selector and module_label in an example.

Merge Risk: Low · previous review 6fcf0

The PR is low risk, but the guide should clarify that short aliases remain valid so users are not misled about supported command-line options.

To clarify since Copilot made a suggestion on #1030
This PR adds the User guide toctree that the other doc PRs (#1025, #1028–#1031) rely on. Since #1024 has merged, main now has guide/product_selectors.rst outside any toctree, which was warned about. This PR includes it via guide/* and still merges cleanly, so it would be good to merge before the others, if possible.

Comment thread docs/source/guide/configuration.rst Resolved
The example of evaluating a workflow with "jsonnet --tla-code" before
passing it to phlex documents Jsonnet usage rather than Phlex, and would
need more explanation (the workflow must be a function taking the
argument) to be useful. Keep only the statement that Phlex has no
options for top-level arguments or external variables.

Also correct the import-path note: imports can be absolute as well as
relative to the importing file.

Comment thread docs/source/guide/configuration.rst Resolved
The sentence "Options must be spelled out in full; abbreviations are not
accepted" could be read as rejecting -c, -j and -h. Only abbreviated
long options such as --par are rejected (allow_guessing is disabled);
the defined short options work [taken from coderabbitai].
